Important items preppers always forget about!
This can be applied to bug-out bags and just having extra supplies in general. And for this article, is by no means an exhaustive list. But, this list will help you get an idea of what most preppers commonly forget in a bug-out situation or what you would need in times of unrest that will at least get you by.
1. Multiple forms of Identification
These can be photocopies of a driver’s license, social security card, and passports. Notice how these are all government-issued papers- even in a grid down situation it’s good to have things that will help you get into and out of places and also it help verify who you are, and that’s all-important even in a bad situation.
2. Plastic Bags or totes
One of the most recent innovations that have become popular are reusable shopping bag and they can be used for much more than just shopping.
3. Duct Tape
It is a great item that can do a lot with a little bit of ingenuity. It could patch holes in clothes and gear.
4. Entertainment
People tend to think that entertainment with all the technology is always going to be available. Now, you could find ways of entertaining yourself when it’s a grid down scenario but, it’s one of the things that may be overlooked for preppers in some cases. For example, books are something that can be good entertainment and education but most people get books digitally. However, if there is no electricity for a while a physical book is the best thing to have.
5. Extra Clothes
Do you have extra clothes in your car or vehicle? This is good for when you get lost somewhere or stuck and you don’t always have extra socks or underwear. Even just a simple sweater or poncho could be extremely beneficial. But you’ll need to have extra underwear and sock for sure.
6. Multi
tool or Knife- A multi-tool is a good thing to have on hand in everyday life and even more so, during an emergency. As a principle for multi-tools, it can go as far as you need it. A knife or at least an extra knife is something some of you may not think about.
7. Rope or Paracord
When you are truly in a survival situation a rope or strong line of some kind can do wonders in terms of shelter building or making additional pieces of gear, especially when using paracord. There is even a brand called Survivor cord which contains within the cord its self smaller diameter nylon rope, and wax dipped line for fire-starting, 25 lb. test fishing that is sheathed within it.
As mentioned before, these are things that you will need for a bug-out bag or that you may need if you can’t easily access a store that has your everyday needs. There is more that could be added but, the most valuable part of being prepared is the step you take to be prepared. Even if you do have a supply of this stuff somewhere, just be diligent to see if you have a number of items that you are comfortable with.
